The Power of Emotional Poetry: A Journey Into Self-Healing

Have you ever felt like your story wasn’t worth telling?

Like your past was too heavy, too painful, or too messy for anyone to understand?

That’s how I felt.

I was behind bars. I had lost my children. I was battling addiction and shame. I didn’t know who I was anymore. I was drowning in silence, holding emotions too big for my body.

Then, something unexpected happened.

I picked up a pen.

Poetry Became My Survival Tool

I didn’t plan on writing a book. I wasn’t trying to be an author or a poet. I was just trying to breathe.

At first, the words were raw and unfiltered. They were fueled by heartbreak, rage, confusion, and longing. But slowly, line by line, I began to see something powerful.

Writing was helping me heal.

It gave me space to speak what I couldn’t say out loud. It allowed me to cry without judgment. It helped me see the beauty buried beneath all the chaos.

This wasn’t just writing.

It was the beginning of an inspirational poetry book that would tell my truth when I couldn’t speak it out loud.

A Life Worth Living: Written in Pieces

My book A Life Worth Living was born inside Elmwood Correctional Facility during the COVID-19 lockdown.

It’s not just a poetry book. It’s a testimony. It’s my journey from pain to peace, from silence to strength, from shame to self-love.

The book is split into three parts:

1. Esmeralda in the Rough

This section reflects the brokenness I was facing. I was holding onto hope with trembling hands. These poems are filled with the voice I used to remind myself not to give up.

2. Lethal Weapon

Here, I write from a darker place. I let my emotions come out unfiltered. There’s anger, trauma, and raw honesty. But within that chaos, there is clarity and courage too.

3. More Precious Than Rubies

This final part is where I find peace in my faith. I reconnect with God, rediscover my purpose, and step into a new identity. These poems are filled with gratitude, strength, and hope.

Why Emotional Poetry Connects So Deeply

Everyone carries wounds. Not everyone knows how to speak about them.

Poetry is a language of the heart. It goes where plain conversation cannot. It helps us face our truth, name our fears, and celebrate the healing we never thought was possible.

Whether you’re fighting addiction, processing grief, or simply feeling stuck, an inspirational poetry book can be a powerful companion on your journey.

That’s what this poetry book became for me — a reminder that healing is possible, even in the darkest place.

This Book is for You If…

– You’ve ever felt unseen or unheard
– You’re navigating your own healing journey
